HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR LABECA PIECES

Care Guide

How to: care for cashmere and wool

By caring for your cashmere and wool properly you will ensure your piece stays in top condition that is long lasting. Looking after your clothing begins before you wash it. When worn too frequently, the fabric can be prone to pilling, so give it a couple of days to rest between wears. If pilling does occur, pilling combs will gently remove this. And finally, only wash when necessary!

Always check the label. Find out if there are any special instructions for your specific garments. Follow guides to ensure the best care for your clothes. Only dry clean if the label specifies.

Use cool water. Heat can cause the material to shrink so always avoid this. Fill a tub or clean sink with cool water.

Use a gentle laundry detergent. Add a few drops into your water and swirl.

Leave your garment to soak. Allow your clothes to sit in the water for about 5 minutes and gently squeeze the material until saturated.

Remove and squeeze. Gently squeeze out any excess water and soap, being careful not to stretch the fabric.

Re-soak. Place the item back into a tub of fresh, soap-free cool water and allow to soak for a further 5 minutes.

Repeat soak and squeeze cycle until all soap is removed.

Place clothing on a dry towel. Carefully use the towel to squeeze out excess water from your cashmere, being careful not to stretch the fabric. Leave flat.

Leave clothing on a dry towel. Keep the clothing flat and do not hang! Allow to dry for around 24 hours.

How to: machine wash

For best results we always recommend washing Labeca clothing by hand as they are delicate fabrics. However, machine washing can also be effective when carried out with care. Fabrics such as cotton, viscose and polyester are safe to machine wash when following these tips.

Reverse wash. Washing your clothes inside out will better protect the outside, make sure any buttons are done up to prevent pulling and to reduce friction.

Put on cold wash. Washing at 30 degrees or lower will be more gentle on the fabric. It will also prevent the garment from shrinking.

Wash on a gentle cycle. Use a shorter and gentle cycle where possible.

Avoid harsh detergents. Check the label! Avoid using detergents that include bleach.

Do not tumble dry. To prolong the life of your garment, dry delicate fabrics on a line or clothes horse. Dryers will shrink your fabric so this is best to avoid. If drying cashmere, lie flat on a dry towel for around 24 hours.

How to: care for your Labeca clothes between washes

Store your items properly. Both wool and cashmere items are better folded than hung. This method of storing avoids the garments losing shape. Using cotton storage bags when packing items away for a season is fantastic for protection. The bags are breathable, to keep your clothing fresh, and bugs can’t eat through them.

Depill as you go. Using a pilling comb as and when you notice a few bobbles is an effective way to stay on top of the condition of your items.
